Equine-Assisted Interventions Training for Mental health professionals

2-Day Training Outline

Day 1 (10:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

  • Basic Equine Behavior & Safety

  • Somatic Attunement

  • Relationship & Attachment Equine Interventions

Day 2 (10:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

  • Introduction to Experiential Interventions

  • Introduction to Riding Interventions

  • Discussion of Business Models & Resources

Lunch is from 12-1 PM both days

Note: Lunch is not provided. Please bring your own lunch or plan to step out if you’d like to grab something.

Medicine Horse is excited to offer a unique equine training opportunity for those in the mental health field. Whether you are a graduate student, a post-graduate, or a practicing professional, this introductory training will provide foundational knowledge in equine-assisted interventions—no prior equine experience required.

Participants will learn about:

  • Basic equine behavior and safety

  • Different forms of client interventions and connections

  • Somatic awareness

  • Resources to help you start your own practice

Training Details

Date: February 21 & 22

Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with a one-hour lunch break from 12:00–1:00 PM)

Cost: $400 ($50 early registration discount if you sign up before January 1)

Who?: Specifically designed for graduate students, post-graduates, or mental health professionals

Dana Shultz

Carina Kellenberger

Dana Schultz and Carina Kellenberger are both licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) with certificates in Animal-Assisted Social Work from the University of Denver’s IHAC program. They are also certified in TF-EAT (Trauma-Focused Equine Assisted Therapy) through the Natural Lifemanship Institute. Since 2013, Dana and Carina have run their private practice and collaborated with universities, non-profits, state organizations, and private practices to provide equine interventions in a variety of settings, including corporate retreats, wellness clinics, individual and family sessions, and support groups.
