Tobey is a third-year graduate student studying Mindfulness based transpersonal counseling at Naropa University. He is fascinated by the experiences in life that bring us outside of the mundane. This can be anything from falling in love to grief work. These extraordinary experiences that shake ourselves and how we view the world can offer us the opportunity to reconceptualize life in a new and amazing way. When working through the incredible or overwhelming parts of life, having help navigating can be a game changer.
Equine therapy offers an opportunity for connection, regulation and experiencing life through a different lens. Tobey's therapeutic style focuses on present moment awareness - really noticing what is going on in your mind, body and soul when interacting with the horses. Becoming curious about what is happening here and now offers such an incredible opportunity for healing and growth to occur.
Tobey helps run groups at Medicine Horse in addition to seeing individual clients on a pay-what-you-can model. He enjoys working with veterans, substance abuse issues, the queer community and anyone who is looking to engage in depth work. He offers an empathetic, goofy, and client-centered approach to therapy and believes that therapy can have an element of humor alongside working with hard, heavy emotions.
