Volunteers are expected to complete mandatory hours mucking, learning to groom, lead and tie, and getting to know our horses. When they have mastered these skills and taken an advanced horse handling class, they are ready to become horse handlers in the programs. People who are experienced horse handlers still must attend an advanced horse handling class before volunteering at Medicine Horse. This is to insure continuity in working with our horses and our clients. Volunteers may attend as many horse handling classes as they would like free of charge.

Horse Handling

Assist facilitators with programs like EquusTM, Hope FoalTM, Just Say WhoaTM and others classes offered at Medicine Horse Program.  Your job as a horse handler will be to keep the horses & participants safe, while assisting with any class activities that the facilitators might need.

TLC

Tender loving care is what our horses need on a regular basis.  Our TLC time is scheduled for Fridays from 1:00 p.m.to 3:00 p.m. Spend time giving back to the horses. We groom them, hand graze them and spend a little one-on-one time with as many as we can.

Muckers

We are looking for volunteers to assist with mucking – just a fancy word for removing manure from the horse stalls. Mucking is essential to keeping the facility clean and our horses hooves healthy!  Volunteers are needed Mon. - Sat, 8:00 am to 12:00.

Turn out

Get real hands-on experience with our horses by helping staff with turn out (moving horses from stalls to pasture).  Our horses love to stretch their legs!  Volunteers are needed Monday – Friday at 10 a.m.

Turn in

Once the horse is out of the barn, we’ve got to bring him back in!  Help our staff members retrieve horses from the pasture and assist with feeding.  Volunteers are needed Monday – Friday from 3 to 5 p.m.

Facilities Crew

Perhaps you are the handy type and want to repair fencing, equipment and more! We need volunteers to work with us on special, one-time projects.

Fundraising Committee

Do you have experience with fundraising?  Serve on this committee to help raise much-needed funds to keep Medicine Horse Program going.

Marketing Committee

This committee is looking for members who enjoy public relations and marketing. Help develop brochures, the website and other tools to spread the word about Medicine Horse Program to our community.

Mailing Crew

Be on our mailing team to help send out newsletters and other items to our donors, volunteers and supporters. This is one of those “a few times a year” volunteer positions.

For more information on any of these opportunities, or to RSVP for volunteer orientation class, please contact Sue Raab, volunteer coordinator, at 720-406-7630 or email volunteercoordinator@medicinehorse.org

Don’t have time to volunteer?  Medicine Horse Program is always looking for donated items specified on our Wish List, or through financial contributions.

Volunteer Orientation Schedule

Our next volunteer orientation/tour is scheduled for Sunday, April 20 from 10:00 to 12:00 am.

RSVP for this class.
