Eunice (Eunie) Gazella Scholarship Fund

In Loving Memory
2/27/36 - 1/6/95

Donations to the Eunice Gazella Scholarship Fund will be designated to help low-income children learn how to horseback ride. By working with an experienced trainer, children are given a wonderful opportunity to interact with horses while learning about horses and horseback riding. In the process, they also gain confidence and acquire important leadership skills.

This began via the generous donation by an anonymous donor who requested that Medicine Horse Program develop a scholarship fund to help low-income children. Karolyn Gazella, former Executive Director of Medicine Horse Program and current board member, was proud to match this generous gift to help create the Eunice Gazella Scholarship Fund. "Because of her years of dedicated service to the Medicine Horse Program," explained Executive Director Kathy Johnson, "we wanted Karolyn to name the fund. We were so pleased when she decided to name it after her mom who died of cancer several years ago and was a life-long horse person."

It costs $400 to send a child to horse camp. If you'd like to make a donation to the Eunice Gazella Scholarship Fund, click on the link below or send a check to (indicate the Eunice Gazella Scholarship Fund in the memo line):

An Excerpt From The Definitive Guide to Cancer
Karolyn's Final Thoughts

For years, each summer I went horseback riding with my mom, my aunt Loni, and some of my cousins. As a young adult, it seemed I was always the first to leave the campsite. As I drove away, they would line the banks of that old dirt road and sing, "Happy trails to you, until we meet again." I'd roll down my window, wave, and watch them sway and sing in my rearview mirror. It has been nearly 20 years since I last heard them belt out that old tune; however, the joy we shared and the love that accompanied each off-key note will never leave me. Happy trails to you and those who share your campsite.
